Scottish Optometric Conference 2009

You are warmly invited to the third SOC 09 held in the Radisson SAS Hotel, Glasgow on Sunday 22nd November 2009 £60 [£30 for SCO/OS members].

This year SCO are taking the lead and there is a lecture for everyone followed by a choice of four workshops. You need to sign up for these workshops on registration  and spaces are allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you do not get your first choice, your second choice will be allocated as spaces allow. The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) have been invited as special guests.

Please click here for a booking form.

The theme is Glaucoma and the programme is compact but has something for everyone:

Lecture: Glaucoma diagnosis & referral (Dr Alan Rotchford) ? 1 CET Point

Workshop 1: An Induction to Gonioscopy (Ian Rough) ? 1.5 CET Points

  • If you would like to build your confidence in Gonioscopy, or try it for the first time then this course is for you. There will be a demonstration of the technique then you will be working in small groups and practicing it for yourself.

Workshop 2: Fish, Fun and Doc Martin Boots (RNIB) ? 1.5 CET Points

  • This workshop will provide optometrists with a creative and interactive experience and an opportunity to address some of the challenges of vision assessment for people who might take us out of our 'comfort zone'.  This session will have particular reference to eye examinations for people with a learning disability.

Workshop 3: Glaucoma 3D Slides (Provided by Allergan) ? 2 CET Points - FULL!!!

  • You will be considering the characteristics of the optic nerve head and how this may be related to the disease process of glaucoma. There is a short tutorial and you will be working round 3D slides in small groups. This session is all about diagnosis and referral.

Workshop 4: OS Forum (OS committee) ? No CET Points

  • This session will allow you to grill the OS committee about the GOS contract and any other optometric political issues that are affecting you. If you do not sign up for this session, you may have a chance to drop in if your workshop finishes early. The committee will also be around over lunch time.

If you are a SCO member, the SCO Committee will be available in one of the conference rooms from 12.30 ? 13.00 and you are most welcome to drop in at any point to look at the new draft constitution, ask questions or just meet the new committee members.

We hope you can join us!
